Is that a spider bite or just an itchy spot? It’s common for people to wake up and find a small, red spot on their arms or legs. Could it be an attack in the night or a simple rash? McCall Service has a few spiders that you shouldn’t worry too much about and a few that you should keep an eye on in and around your home.

Spider Infestation? Common Spiders to Look For

Don’t worry about these spiders.

Most spiders are afraid of humans and run away as soon as their eight eyes spot us. Even if they bite you, the worst-case scenario for most spiders is a red welt that pops up in the area. If you’re allergic to spider bites, it’s important to keep away from aggressive and non-aggressive species. Some friendlier spiders include:

  • Cellar spiders
  • Common house spiders
  • Jumping spiders
  • Cellar spiders
  • Common house spiders
  • Jumping spiders

These spiders rarely bite humans and usually prefer to go it alone. However, the jumping spider is quite curious and may hop near you to get a better look. They’re harmless though and don’t pose a threat to humans.

Watch out for these spiders.

Aggressive spiders will bite you if provoked. Sometimes they hide in shoes and clothing and bite you when you least expect it. Poisonous spiders have venom that can cause real harm to humans and pets, such as the black widow. Two other common venomous spiders include:

  • Brown recluse spiders
  • Wolf spiders
  • Brown recluse spiders
  • Wolf spiders

Unless you’re allergic, wolf spider venom isn’t lethal. However, it could cause a serious rash in the bite area. If you’ve seen brown recluses, black widows, or wolf spiders in or outside of your home, it’s important to contact a pest control professional who can eliminate the pests before they cause harm to you, your family, and your pets.
