Protect Your Home From Pests With IPM And McCall Service

Pest control methods of the past involved pointing and spraying potentially dangerous chemicals in and around your home.  This was effective, but not very safe for homes with small children and pets and it certainly was not the environmentally conscious way to eliminate pests such as ants, flies, cockroaches and mice.

Times have changed and at McCall Service we focus on eliminating pest problems utilizing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques and practices.  This proactive approach includes implementing common sense practices like sealing holes that make pest entry easy.  Of course, some pest problems require treatment and when that happens McCall’s pest control professionals take pride in using the least amount of chemical possible to effectively get the job done.

In addition to being eco-friendly, IPM is something that you, as a homeowner, can participate in.  By making small changes (also known as pest-proofing) around your home you can help McCall Service protect it and your family from pests.  Here are some pest prevention tips you can implement to help reduce the chances of insect and rodent infestations in your home.

Outdoor Pest Exclusion

  • Sealing and caulking cracks and gaps around your home, including the foundation

  • Replacing or repairing damaged window and door screens

  • Keeping trees and shrubs trimmed back away from your home

  • Removing items from your yard that may accumulate water

  • Stack firewood and other lumber well away from your home

  • Pointing gutters well away from your home

  • Removing soil and mulch from around your home’s foundation

  • Storing garbage properly with tight fitting lids or covered dumpsters

Indoor Pest Exclusion

  • Emptying trash regularly and keep trash cans clean

  • Keep sinks, drains and garbage disposals free of any food debris

  • Do not keep dirty dishes in the sink for any length of time

  • Clean crumbs and grease from appliances including stove tops, microwaves and toasters

  • Store pet food in plastic, sealing containers

  • Store human food in containers with tight fitting lids or in the fridge

  • Sweep, vacuum and mop floors regularly, especially around eating areas

  • Vacuum upholstered furniture

  • Inspect your groceries and bags prior to bringing them into your home to prevent the introduction of cockroaches and stored product pests

  • Do not leave pet food out, clean dishes daily

Successfully getting rid of pests is accomplished through a working partnership between you as the homeowner and our pest control specialists and by implementing IPM measures and only using chemical when absolutely necessary.
