Keep Spooky Spiders Away From Your Florida Home This Halloween

In the spirit of Halloween, we thought it was a great time to talk about a pest that causes quite a fright - spiders! Often spiders are used in Halloween decorations because they are known to cause some people to jump and scream. For residents in Northern Florida, there are many different spiders that could be lurking inside of your home including brown recluse spiders, cellar spiders, jumping spiders and wolf spiders.

It is important to know that most spiders are not dangerous, just a nuisance for when they lurk in corners and leave unsightly looking webs behind. But spiders can bite if they feel threatened and for some people the venom of a spider bite may cause an allergic reaction requiring medical attention. Our best advice, prevent spiders from getting inside in the first place that way you are less likely to jump or scream at the surprise of a spider inside your home.

While spiders could be found pretty much anywhere in your home, they are most likely going to be in a secluded area where they can access insects for a food source. Some of the common areas to find a spider in your home include:

Basements

Garages

Attics

Crawl spaces

Closets

Because these areas have less human traffic, it makes it easy for many spiders to hide away. This is where spider prevention plays an important role. If you want to keep the real spiders out this Halloween and throughout the entire year, here are some spider prevention tips from the Northern Florida pest control pros at McCall Service:

  • Seal off all cracks, holes, and crevices on the exterior of your home.

  • Trim back any bushes and shrubs that are touching the exterior of the home.

  • Remove clutter from the inside, especially the areas listed above where spiders tend to hide out.

  • Get rid of abandoned spider webs with a broom or vacuum.

  • Inspect firewood before bringing it inside and keep it stacked away from the house and up off the ground.

In addition to following these spider prevention tips it is important to maintain your regular scheduled pest control services in Tampa, Ocala, Gainesville, Jacksonville, and throughout our Northern Florida service area. By keeping all the insects and critters away from your home you are less likely to have lurking spiders. For more information on FL spider control, please contact McCall Service today!
