Do you love the 4th of July? So do mosquitoes and other blood eating pests. If you're going be out enjoying all that Ocala has to offer on this Independence Day weekend, be sure to take some precaution. Many pests--mosquitoes especially--are spreaders of harmful bacteria, diseases and viruses. Don't take the chance that you get the bite that brings on flu-like symptoms or worse.
When you're out enjoying Patriots in the Park, God and Country Day, The Red White and Blues Festival, and other great events, be sure to use these tips to ward of those biting insects.
Insect repellant is still the best way to protect against bites. Find a product that contains DEET or Picaridin (also known as KBR 3023, Bayrepel and icaridin).
If you're worried about putting insect repellent on your skin, use a repellant that has a botanical, like oil of lemon eucalyptus, or spray the repellent on your clothing instead of your skin.
Try to cover up as much as you're able. Long sleeves and pants go a long way to protecting your skin from bites.
Wear a cap, especially if you have less hair coverage.
Be sure to protect your pet as well, but don't apply products with DEET on your dogs or cats. Your pet may lick it off their fur and become very sick. Consult your pet’s veterinarian for advice on flea, tick and mosquito protection for your four legged family members. There is currently no safe way to protect cats from mosquitoes because they are such good groomers, consult your veterinarian for advice.
