Stored Product Pests

Stored Product Pests

What are stored product pests?

Stored product pests, also known as pantry pests, are a group of insects that feed on flour, cereals, and dog food as well as other dry, stored food items.  Stored product pests common to Florida include:

  • Cigarette Beetle

  • Drugstore Beetle

  • Flour Beetle

  • Indian Meal Moth

  • Rice Weevil

Why do I have stored product pests?

In many cases, beetles, moths and other stored product pests are introduced on items already infested.

Are they dangerous?

Stored product pests do not cause damage other than the contamination of food products rendering them unsafe to eat.

How do I get rid of stored product pests?
